Anyone else itchin' to get their gardens started?

Winter is a much needed "sleep time" for the trees, grass and other wonderful plants and greenery that enrich the soul, but I’m getting restless and want to start diggin up the garden! Unfortunately, it’s still buried under about 6" of snow:(
Anyone else planning and dreaming of their beautiful summer garden?
So seeing I can’t dig, I’m plannning & re-planning!

They would need to be hardy to zone 6 (lower NY State). I am trying to achieve a backdrop of plants that do not shed their leaves in the winter so they can block the foundation, which happens to show 3 feet of itself. In front of these plants, I have some perenialls in mind. FYI, the planting beds are 8-10′ deep and in part to full shade. I can’t think of any other information, except that my house is red and I love interesting leaves and azaleas. Thank you so much for helping.

My husband and I just started our own landscaping business, but I have no idea how I should charge for the jobs we aquire!!

Have you ever ordered produce online?

It costs me alot to go to a grocery store as it is let alone every couple days to keep fresh produce in the house.
Perishables won’t do well buying in bulk so what about mailorder? Any suggestions on how to maintain fresh supply of produce when you live way out in the country? I already do gardening but still I am limited to alot of other ffresh things year round.

My garden vegetables plants are not growing well this summer. I have tomatoes, squash, hot peppers, basil and oregano. The plants are very short and less developed as compared with other summers. I’m wondering if it could be the high UV index we’ve been having. It’s also been cooler than usual and much rainier than usual. The soil is fresh and all else seems to be in order. Should I move them into the shade or it more likely that it’s the cooler temperatures and too much rain that’s the cause of their underdevelopment? Many thanks.

What gardening/lawn product would work best?

Ny bf’s backyard is mostly a patio. with a small shed & a little pond. We are planning to go back there and fix it up but, weeds and grass are between the "spaces" on the deck. He’s afraid if we clean it all up it will just all grow back, but I’m sure there is some kind of spray or something we could place out there to prevent that. Any suggestions?

Help with organic gardening?

I’m really interested in growing organic vegetables and herbs but im not really sure where to start. I don’t want to plant in the ground of my backyard, I’d rather have a large rectangular type holder above ground. The only thing is is that I don’t really know if the potting soil you buy at the store is truly organic. Also, I am unsure of where i can buy quality seeds. Its not practical for me to buy them online. I’m looking to plant a variety of vegetables and herbs.
I live in northcarolina and the soil I have in my backyard is sandy clay loam.
I forgot to mention i have 4 dogs… if that make any difference.

Do plants provide very much oxygen to a tank?

I’ve got a small unfiltered tank, would plants provide enough oxygen for a small number of fry in there or would plants make it worse by using up the oxygen at night?

I’m 18 and would like to paint houses or do landscaping but I don’t know where to go to apply to do these kinds of things in my area. Would I go to a contractor? I don’t want to start my own business, I just want to get into it.

Planted in my garden are eggplants, zuccini, yellow crooked neck squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, cayenne peppers, green onions, and sunflowers. Not all of my plants are changing colors, and the ones that are turning colors are not next to each other. Some are on opposite sides of the garden, that’s why I think it is something in the soil. I can’t find the answer to this problem ANYWHERE!!!!!

I live in Madison, Wisconsin, so "Zone 4".

I’m hoping to sell my house this year, and while I’m making decisions to improve curb appeal and the general appearance of the landscaping of the lot, I’m especially curious in plants that will show well in their first year. I’ll make full use of the plants I already have, and have thoroughly researched what to put in the shaded area of my yard, but I’m not sure what to put in the sunny to part-sun areas.

Suggestions? Thanks!

I want to plant a tomato plant on my patio in a 5 gallon plastic bucket. Should I drill holes in the bottom, or about 2 inches up the side? What should I use in the bottom of the bucket for drainage?

Hi, I have a miniature rose bush that I keep indoors year round. The roses are normally a coral color. Recently I changed all of my light bulbs to the compact florescent light bulbs and one of my rose plants (that is kept next to my lamp) has bloomed a pale pink flower and the new green foliage is lighter than the older foliage. I am curious to know whats going on and If it is the light bulbs creating the changes in color. The plant seems to be doing better then it ever has.

I am starting a lawn and landscaping company and would like help with some good names any ideas? thanks!

A garden supply store sells two types of lawn mowers. Total sales of mowers for the year were 79.70. The total number of mowers sold was 30. The small mower costs 9.99. The larger mower costs 9.99. Find the number sold of each type of mower.

I need explanations not necessarily answers. Thanks.

I’m doing a project for school and I need to pick a garden that I like but all I know of is flower garden and rock garden! So, how many gardens are out there nad which is the best kind to have?

What vegetable garden plants do aphids not like?

I am starting a garden want to find out what plants are not susceptible to aphid infestation. Many of my outdoor potted plants have had problems with aphids. Rather than trying to fight them, I would like to grow plants that are just not susceptible to aphid attack. Any suggestions?

It is about 15 feet long and 5 feet deep. The soil is not the best but is decent. It doesn’t get the sun until about 11am then only until about 4 or 5pm.

What kind of flowers should I plant in here?? I bought some seeds for Dianthus, Monarda, and Oriental Poppies but would these all go together?? Any other suggestions?

Also, should I start the seeds inside or is it okay to plant them out there?

Thanks!
