I don’t know if these books are read in the US, so this question is aimed mainly at UK residents. I’ve just finished "Gardens of Delight" by Erica James, and feel that what would have been a really good book was tainted for me by all the grammatical mistakes. It’s hard to believe that all these errors got by proof readers/editors. Did anyone else think the same?

I have a spot that gets morning sun and the rest of the day is shady. I want to plant flowers there. I have a couple hostas and some lillies that are doing well. What else can I plant here?

I live in an apartment & miss having a garden. I’d like to start a container garden on my patio and grow some vegetables. Which vegetables do best in this type of situation?
Hi, again! Wow, the response I’ve got has been great– could you guys (and gals) please expand on what size containers, how much attention I have to pay to light, etc? Any pertinent details I should know/ keep in mind when endeavoring to do this?
Thanks so much for all the great answers!

so I am planting sugar snap peas, tomatoes, great lakes lettuce, spinach , and basil, and I am worried that there are going to be lots of nasty pests around like earwigs, aphids, etc. I live in oregon and last year I planted a garden and the crops were fine, but there were only tomatoes, and zucchini. Should I worry about pests with these new plants?

I want to plant a vegetable garden next year but the part of my property where it needs to go is below the septic leachfield. Will that be a problem? What should I do?

We just bought our first home last July and are clueless how to landscape around the house. Right now all that’s around the house are ugly bushes that are dead. This spring we are digging up the bushes and we have bought landscaping stone (the multicolored gravel) to go around the house. Does anyone have any good ideas or suggestions on what to plant? I want colorful flowers that will come up every year and some trees that are mauve in color. I haven’t a clue what to get! Help!

I was thinking of adding organic powdered alfalfa to my garden because of all the nutrients in alfalfa. Do you think this will greatly benefit my garden or flowers? Is there any other way I can benefit with alfalfa?

All I have ever found on the ‘net is stuff about the growth cycle of gamble oak. But how, and when, is the best time to plant gamble oak acorns? I am currently following the natural procedure that I have seen in the Sangre De Cristo mountains, but do I need to crack the acorn before planting, or will a freeze do that naturally when in the ground? I am also afraid of those little worms eating the seed before it can germinate if I crack it before hand. Anyone know anything about Gamble Oak?
