Gardening/relandscaping question?

I have an approximately 900sq/f grassy/flower bedded area in my back yard that has been long forgotten and long unloved. I’d like someone’s advice on a diy project that would entail planting new grass, starting a small garden and filling the small flower beds with perennials. I live in sunny, hot southern california.

my main questions are:
1. if I want to replace the dead, dry, burr-filled grass, do I need to take out what’s there, or do I plant new things above it?
2. what types of flowers are the easiest to care for in a dry, hot climate, and which will give me the most color variety? also, I need them to be ok near a pool.
3. lastly, is this an attainable project to complete in 200 dollars? I’ll do all the labor myself, and I already have the things for the garden, I just need flowers (preferably already grown, but I can start from seeds if needed) and grass seedlings/supplies.

Thanks so much in advance for the help!

How do garden rental spaces work?

What is the typical size of a rental space? Do they supply and water the garden? Are they usually secure? are they typically organic? Any other information or relevant experience you have would be appreciated
Thanks

Will you perhaps catch a movie, read a book you’ve been saving, buy a carton of ice cream or a tub of chocolate pudding or hot & spicy tortilla chips, or take a walk in the park or even a stroll down the sidewalk, definitely stopping to smell the roses? I remember when the fabric store & the nursery (for plants & garden supplies) used to run special prices & coupons for Super Bowl Sunday, presumably for all the ladies who were not football fans & didn’t want to be slave for a day or run a masquerade like pretending to care about the game.

What about you? Male or female? Fan or not? How well do you tolerate the sports announcers with their droll remarks & historical background info? Are you at home that day or out & about?
Housework! Ms. Mermaid, you gotta be kidding. Aren’t you always planning to do housework? (just like me?) Now that will go over big with the football watchers, won’t it? (especially if you vacuum) Now sit down & think again. You’re supposed to think of something fun.
Actually, I like Ms. Mermaid’s answer & all the other ones, too.

If Americans were more self reliant, a depression or trucking strike or other unforseen things wouldn’t put them at risk, right?

do i need planning permission?

i have an existing garage in my back garden, its made of asbestos and is falling apart. I need to replace it, but when i do i want the new one to be 6foot further back and the length 10 foot longer.

Warning for Dog and Cat Owners – NOT A JOKE

Please tell every dog or cat owner you know. Even if you don’t have a pet, please pass this to those who do.

Over the weekend, the doting owner of two young lab mixes purchased Cocoa Mulch from Target to use in their garden. The dogs loved the way it smelled and it was advertised to keep cats away from their garden. Their dog (Calypso) decided the mulc h smelled good enough to eat and devoured a large helping. She vomited a few times which was typical when she eats something new but wasn’t acting lethargic in any way. The next day, Mom woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk . Half way through the walk, she had a seizure and died instantly.

Although the mulch had NO warnings printed on the label, upon further investigation on the company’s website, this product is HIGHLY toxic to dogs and cats.

Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey’s, and they claim that "It is true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won’t eat it."

Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Home Depot, Foreman’s Garden Supply and other Garden supply stores contains a lethal ingredient called ‘Theobromine’. It is lethal to dogs and cats. It smells like chocolate and it really attracts dogs. They will ingest this stuff and die. Several deaths already occurred in the last 2-3 weeks.

Theobromine is in all chocolate, especially dark or baker’s chocolate which is toxic to dogs. Cocoa bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of theobromine, a xanthine compound similar in effects to caffeine and theophylline. A dog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacao bean shells developed severe convulsions and died 17 hours later. Analysis of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shell revealed the presence of lethal amounts of theobromine.

)legit:( Do you know how much your dog(s) weigh?

He starts each show in a boat. He finishes the show still sleeping in the boat. He is the only character that doesn’t go to bed. Only he uses the path supplied like a guest would.

I hope I’m wrong coz it’d be dead sad if he is just alone at sea!
Everyone seems to missing the point. He is in the garden in the show but is the whole show just his dream and he never actually leaves the boat.

What kind of bugs are in my garden?

I have a fairly normal, run-of-the-mill garden. I pretty much just grow the usual… potatoes, cucumbers, party supplies, tomatoes and string beans. Now, I have a lot of bugs in my garden. I understand that there will always be SOME bugs, but I have a lot of them. I think most of them are normal, but one in particular piques my attention. It’s small, red with black spots on it and tastes horrible. How would I get rid of this bug without introducing snakes or Humber hogs? Thanks a ton! (please, only serious answers)

It seems like 99% of their data is supplied by their users, so seems excessive to me. There are plenty of similar websites on other topics that are free, but davesgarden seems to have really taken the lead in gardening for some reason, even though they charge so much.

If I can’t find a supply from a gardening store, can I use a form sold at a health food store designed for human consumption by altering it in some way?

Taking into consideration the current economic times and the great possibility of the greatest depression since 1929, what items would you prioritize if you were strapped for cash, living from paycheck to paycheck:

>Firearm and ammo

>Storable food (6 to 12 mo. supply)

>Gold and/or silver coins (replacement money when the Dollar is useless)

>Seeds to plant your own garden
Clarification: must select at two of the listed items and which one you would prioritize of the other.

I wanted to ask some Australians and New Zealanders often they shop at Garden/flower shops?

It would be a place that sells Floral Arrangements, live plants (flowers, house plants, bushes, trees), gardening supplies, cards (like for birthdays, romantic cards, Valentine’s Day, and special occasions), some miscellaneous things like candies, jewelry, and statuettes.
I prefer self-employment over corporate employment. I do have a 4 year degree in business, so if I choose not to use my business degree its my option.

Questions about fundraising?

My classmates and I are building a garden. Who would I contact if we wanted donations of supplies to build our garden?

What do you guys think is the most realistic way for my class to raise money? =/

Since a lizards’, tail grows back, can these lizards, big and small, survive just from eating its’ own tail?
It grows back again and it eats it and it grows back again…
when no other food supply can be found.

The garden is flat and turfed. I’m looking for them to prepare the ground, lay the joists, do the whole thing basically. Assume no fancy balustrades or anything like that, just the flat 16 square metres of decking.

I just don’t want to get ripped off when I start getting quotes.

Thanks.
