For the first time I planted seeds last year. Experimented 1st with pumpkin seeds…grew like crazy but they choked each other and the pumpkins stayed pretty small. Perhaps too many seeds were planted into each hole? The seed packets tell you how far apart to plant the seeds, but not how many to plant together.

I have a chilli pod which I will plant. Is it okay to plant it while it is still fresh and plump, or do the seeds in the pod need to dry out before it is embedded in the soil?

We bought a house last year that has 2 plots for flowers out front. The plots had a few plants in it, and lots of mulch, to keep down the weeds. I understand taht. But this year i want to plant NEW plants, what do i do with the mulch? Scrape it out? sow it into the dirt? pour new dirt on top? I just dont know. Please help.

The plants will recieve direct sunlight and will get minimal water. Because i live in the florida area it will be very hot but because im doing it for the science department i would perfer that the plants flower and if at all possible attract birds and butterflys.
If you could give me websites with a list of these types of plants that would be great!

people try many things to get a desired result. when creating a landscape plan, they will often plant non-native trees and shrubs for a variety of reasons.
it’s not anyone’s place to criticize their choices, but what difficulties or problems may crop up (pun intended) in the care and cultivation of non-native plants? what benefits might be gained? what are your personal experiences?
another point to be taken… is the growing of exotic food crops more acceptable in some quarters than the growing of exotic trees and ornamentals? why or why not?

I especially mean those "Baby Einstien" videos. Now they are even geared towards infants. Maybe a better was to develop a child’s mind is to take them out into nature, have them make their own art, play with them, make up games with them, stimulate their imaginations… How can planting a baby or toddler in front of a television screen ever be beneficial to a developing mind?

When I start my seedlings this year, would it do any good to soak them for a few minutes before planting, or just water them in the potting soil? Is there any difference in germination?

I live in Madison, Wisconsin, so "Zone 4".
I’m hoping to sell my house this year, and while I’m making decisions to improve curb appeal and the general appearance of the landscaping of the lot, I’m especially curious in plants that will show well in their first year. I’ll make full use of the plants I already have, and have thoroughly researched what to put in the shaded area of my yard, but I’m not sure what to put in the sunny to part-sun areas.
Suggestions? Thanks!

It is about 15 feet long and 5 feet deep. The soil is not the best but is decent. It doesn’t get the sun until about 11am then only until about 4 or 5pm.
What kind of flowers should I plant in here?? I bought some seeds for Dianthus, Monarda, and Oriental Poppies but would these all go together?? Any other suggestions?
Also, should I start the seeds inside or is it okay to plant them out there?
Thanks!

I want to plant cantaloupe seeds, but I don’t know where to find them. Do you guys know where I can? Or can I buy a cantaloupe and use the seeds in it to plant? This is like the first time I’m planting anything, and so I have a lot of questions…
And also when i do plant, how long will it take the cantaloupe to grow? Thanks!

I am building a new house and had to remove a dangerous Weeping Willow. Planning permission was granted subject to my planting a more suitable tree, when the build is finished. The new tree will be about 12 to 15 metres from my new house. Any help you can give re: a Web site that has details of tree type and most importantly, suitability for plantling near my new home, would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Peter

With seeds, should I wait or can you plant in any type of weather? I know with plants and cuttings it should be cloudy and not windy, but does this still apply to seeds? Please help!

The landscaper was supposedly planting both male and female bushes, but not one berry appeared this winter. The variety is China Girl and they were planted last spring.

We have put alot of time, money, and effort into our backyard landscaping. We had one portion of our backyard fenced with wroth iron so we can enjoy our view. Now our new neighbors that just had their house built are planting avacado trees (they grow huge) all along the wroth iron fence and obstructing our view. They have a huge backyard and decide to plant along this area. Is there anything that can be done about this? Thanks guys. (Riverside, CA) THANKS!
Yah, we tried asking them nicely already but they declined. = (

We have two little spots that have been rocked off by the previous owner, it really looks like nothing more than dirt. How do I start the planting process, its now late september, do I need an early start to start getting things ready for spring, or can I start planting now to bloom in spring? I’ve never done any kind of gardening before and dont even know how to turn my dirt into something of substance! Help!!!
