Planting Archives

I remember reading that China (or it may have been Japan??) was planting millions of acres of some type of plant that it was planning to use as fuel. It’s a type of plant that is not edible. And, I believe that the plant isn’t a proven way to actually produce fuel but the Chinese government has invested in growing it because of its potential for future use.

What is it???

When to start planting outdoors in Central Virginia??

I live in Central Virginia, and I am very, very eager to get out there and start planting!! I’ve put some pansies and begonias out and they’re doing well. I am potting an herb garden, and some daisies, random flowers, and veggies. What if I potted them, brought them outside during the day and in at night until the end of April? Or is the beginning of May better? Please help before I run and stick everything in the ground tomorrow- haha.

I’m going to have a garden 50′ x90′ and an addition 20x’40′ with tomatoes. I was planning on planting a 2-4 foot wide strip of mixed wildflowers round the edge to help attract bees and stuff. Is this a good plan?
I’m running drip irgation to the garden, will the flowers need to be watered this way also?
I’m in zone 7 with very sandy soil.
Thanks in advance!
To reply to 3rd comment: The garden will be in a already fenced area which has a wide gate for tractor access and I’ll be planting the flowers around outside the fence so it wont be hindering the garden at all. The Tomatoes will be grown right next to the fenced area where last years garden was so they are connected and easy access.
I’m planting so much becauce I will be home canning most of it from my family and close relatives. We have sucessfully grown everything before, I just want to do it bigger and better then before. We have gotten a tractor and plows so it wont be as big of a chore. Plus we’re multching everything and combined with the drip irrgation that should keep alot of the weeds down. I’m a stay at home mom so I’ve got the time it will take. I’ve even got the wildflower seeds already due to some deaths in the family and they make thoes packets up for people and we have a bunch left over. Thanks for the thoughts and advice from everyone!

I’m not "new to gardening." I’ve just never grown from seed before. :)

Hillary has been caught recently for planting questions in her audiences. But is this a sign of someone that can’t answer tough questions? Do you want a President who can’t answer tough questions?

Some of you Hillary lovers will try and say that the other candidates probably plant questions too. But you are only kidding yourself! NO OTHER candidate has been accused of planting questions. ONLY has Hillary Clinton been caught and admitted to doing it!

Planting time wondering about bulbs and seeds?

I am planting bulbs. I was wondering if there was a way to start them before I plant them so they will come up faster. Any tips for getting them to grow faster will help. I am also planting seeds and know soaking them will help them start faster. I was just wondering. I am mainly talking about gladiolas, iris, seeds like sweet pea, morning glory, sunflowers and some others. Thanks for any tips.

If I started planting seeds in pots, would they be just the right size to transfer them into a garden when it is warm out? I live in Wisconsin so there is still snow on the ground. I don’t want to pot seeds too early if they will be too big to be in the house before the time is right to plant them into a garden.

My Dad is always buying gardening mags and spending half a day reading them and the other half planting them can anyone make any sence of this for me??
