I see them on the list of plants that are toxic to animals. But how toxic are they? We just got one, and it sits on the floor. Our cat doesn’t really bother plants, but we want to make sure that if she did bother the rubber plant, that it wouldn’t harm her. Does anyone know HOW toxic they are? Is it very serious?

Potato plants reproduce in two ways: through their underground tubers we call potatoes, and through the toxic fruits from the flowers on the plant itself. Most plants have just one way of reproducing, through spores like ferns, or flowers and seeds/fruits like most other plants, but the potato plant has two. Why is this the case when so many other plants only have one way of reproducing?
Also, if potatoes are edible, why aren’t the fruits of the potato plant also edible?

I have several tomato plants that are currently in a small greenhouse, but I was planning to plant them outdoors soon. I have an early girl, several cherry tomato plants, and a few big boys. I live in the Pacific Northwest, so I’m wondering if I repot one or two of the plants and keep them in the greenhouse, how long will they produce fruit for?

We have 5 chickens, 8 weeks old. They have quite a good enclosure, about 9mts x 4mts. Part is built in the main open, what would be good plants or shrubs to plant along the fences that they would enjoy and would serve good purpose?

I have some Thai ginger in my garden and I am looking at putting some other plants around it. I was thinking of regular ginger and maybe turmeric. Does anyone have any suggestions on other plants that would compliment (ie. look good next to) the Thai ginger?

I know that plants suffer from "dehydration" when there is a drought, but are there any other long time effects for plants?
Explanations, please.
I know that this is a very broad question. I need as much information as possible.
Thank you!

I am new to tomato gardening, so bear with me. On a couple of the plants, a few of the leaves have white marks that are squiggly and about 1/2 inch long. The plants seem healthy and are beginning to bear fruit. Is this normal? Does it indicate some deficiency in the soil, or indicate that I need to fertilize or something? They look really good otherwise.

How important are plants in a fishtank? I have four african cichlids, I had like 3 plants in the tank. But after a while they ate em up, now I can barely see the roots of those plants.
I heard the plants are important for fish, for O2. I have a bubbler for the fishtank though. Is it important to have plants in the tank for any other reason?

I used a bed of Flourite substrate, and that makes the water pretty cloudy at the beginning. Is it ok to plant my plants while the water is still kind of cloudy?

I’ve heard that in past epochs abnormally large amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere caused plants to grow to massive scales. Could that characteristic be applied to present day plants should the proportion of CO2 continue to rise?

I have a small plot in the front of my house, about 6 foot by 12 foot directly infront of my house. I have nothing in it right now. It gets direct sunlight in the morning until about 1pm. I don’t want to put anything to tall either because I have a window that goes almost to the ground directly behind my garden. So what plants would be good to plant this late in the summer?

I have tall trees (30 to 50 feet) in my backyard (Maryland, not sure what type of trees) since it touches a small reseve/forest.
Many of them guests climbing plants that goes all the way to the top. Tree’s diameter are about 14 inches and the climbing plants base are 1 to 2 inches.
I was entretaining the idea of taking the climbing planst off by cutting them at the base and waiting for them to dry to help the trees, but not sure if I would be doing good or bad.
Any suggestions ?

I just moved and in the alley next to my house there is about 50 flowers planted there that are shut all day and then around 9:15 or so at night open up within about 15 seconds! Its amazing. Also venus fly traps shut quickly enough to catch a fly. But without muscles, how do these plants move so quickly?

I want to get some house plants to make the air in my apartment cleaner and I know what types of house plants to get, I just don’t know how many I will need to get for a one-bedroom apartment. For it to make a real difference, is it like 2-3 or like 20-25?
I have read that certain plants can help purify certain toxins out of the air (http://www.zone10.com/tech/NASA/Fyh.htm), but I was wondering how many I needed for my medium sized one-bedroom apartment. I have 2 small snake plants and I’m planning on getting some others, but I was wondering if I needed 5 more or more like 25 more.

I am looking for 2 hanging plants to put out on my balcony at my apartment. I want ones that have easy upkeep and are pretty. I heard that impatients might be the way to go. Will that attrect many bees?
Also- I will be needing some indoor plants as well, I hear that ferns are hard to manage… I want something that will be pretty and full, and easy to manage as well. And I also have a small puppy that may eat some of the leaves if she sneaks off and gets a chance if they fall off of the plant from the shelf, so please suggest something that is not toxic to pups!

I was just curious about evolution. It is clear that animals cannot live without plants. Even if they are carnivores their prey eats plants. So i’m guessing they had to be the first life forms to evolve before there were animals. When the sun was created the world still had to change to accommodate the sun to make this world livable for plants. Then when it was it took millions of years for the plants to evolve. Then possibly millions more years for animals to appear. So were plants the first evolved life in this world?

I wanted to know mainly what vegetables would be good to plant, but if you have an idea of what some good plants to plant in the front yard I don’t have a problem hearing about that to. And any gardening tips would be helpful. Thanks a million!
