Also, who is a good source for seed, I have a J L hudson catalogue…. I could use some help getting started in the right direction… Thanks-Lee

When animals eat plants, they get nitrogen compounds that their bodies need. Plants do not make these nitrogen compounds. So from where do plants get their nitrogen compounds?

I am going to get some plants for around the house today but I had heard that some plants are poisonous and was wondering if anyone know which ones were so I don’t get something that can hurt my pets.

I am trying to set up a cottage garden across the back fence. All the seedlings get trampled on and broken by our young dogs as they run and play. The yard is huge and they are only small dogs, so there is plenty of room for them to play elsewhere. Its so frustrating to spend so much money, time, and effort to plant a nice garden only to have it trampled on and torn apart. Yes, I know I could put up fence, but I will have to save enough money for this. Meanwhile, I am working on training them to stay out. During this training and until I get a fence, are there any plants that will deter them from entering the garden? — e.g., things dogs don’t like the smell of, I don’t want to go with cactus or spikey plants that would injure. The "get off my garden" sprays, etc. don’t work and I cannot afford to keep on trying the various brands. Thanks for your help.

I’m moving into a new apartment and I want some plants. What are some good plants that will do well in a fairly dark apartment? I know some plants clean the air and have their own perks. What would be best for me keeping in mind my place is fairly dark and also that it is small. Also, if you can give me a variety of plants to also factor in the aesthetic of the apartment.

Be sure to specify the month. I would imagine that, whatever plants you may be able to plant, they would all have to be in the soil before the first frost. Am I right?
What kind of flowers grow from a bulb?

I’m a useless gardener. I have a few "tree looking" plants in pots that I never water and they’re fine.

I have an area next to my driveway I would like to add some plants to but don’t know what kind would do best. The plants are far enough away from the pavement they won’t get run over. I live in planting zone 5.

I have a betta fish named Wilfred and I’m planning on creating a 10+ gallon planted home for him and am wondering what the best plants are for bettas and, more importantly, what do I need to do to make these plants flourish? What substrate do I need, what chemicals and such, what temp, what light, and any other things I don’t know about? I’ve never planted before, and I’m just starting to research it.

this is for an ap bio planning lab. we wanna see how the spectrum of light affects plant growth, so we have a normal light bulb and a black (purple-ish) one. we could only afford fluorescent ones.
which plants are easy to keep alive with fluorescent lighting? we have to start with seeds, by the way.

Variegated plants(plants with white streaks or spots) do not make good weeds. They are cultivated for their attractive appearance but often do not fare well in nature. Why might this be?

I have a 36 bow front which I’m currently running a saltwater set up. But money is getting tight and I’m having trouble maintaining it. So I’m thinking of changing it over to a simple freshwater set up. Nothing flashy. Maybe some Tetra and plants. Can anyone possibly recommend some low maintenance plants (like ones that I don’t have to have an CO2 system with). And if at all possible, a site to see some nice tanks and get some ideas. Thanks!

I’m looking to grow some plants indoors from seeds, but as I have a north facing flat, there is no sunlight entering any of the windows.
I was wondering if there were any types of plants that would still thrive in this environment, without having to spend money on expensive hyroponic kits! Any ideas?

My balcony receives direct sunlight (and gets very hot) during the morning hours and very limited sunlight the rest of the day. What plants would grow best and what advice do you have to take care of them. I have had trouble with many flowering plants because they get so hot in the morning. I live in the midwest so it gets hot in the summers. Thanks!!!

There are healthy plants with totally yellow or maroon leaves and other glowing colors when exposed to sunlight. There are also plants that become greenier when not exposed to sunlight. What’s the scientific reason of changing colors.

I’m trying to determine what is a weed and what is a plant on my recently purchased property. There are 100’s of different plants and several seem like they could be ground cover plants, but I’m not sure, they could just be weeds! Does anyone know of a good source for plant identification?

I’m going to move up to Barrie, Ontario and I would like to know what kinds of plants grow well there.
It would be nice to know about a couple of flowers, but I am more interested in edible plants.
For those who don’t know, Barrie is about in the middle of Ontario.

If so, what types of plants; how many would be necessary to kill humans? Could the plants destroy the anti-harm system that is built in humans?

I have two plants in my bedroom, a Spider Plant and a Golden pathos. I have air conditioning, so there’s steady circulation occurring all the time. Still, can mould spores be coming out of the soil in the plants and into the air I breath?

Bathroom gets lots of lights, and plants will be near a radiator. A plant that can tolerate lots of heat and light is best. Ideas?
bathroom gets humid.
plants should be low or moderate maintenance.
I have dogs, so nothing poisonous.
