I am growing tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, turnips, peas, lima beans, squash, and watermelon. I know I need to plant a certain # of seeds per plant, but there is no info on the seed packets, and I can’t find the answer anywhere online. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ThankS!
Wow, I received so many great answers so fast! Thank you all so much for all your help! I really appreciate it!

Please do not suggest pulling them up or using SedgeHammer (formerly Manage). Pulling them up makes it worse and SedgeHammer cannot be used on vegetables.

I have just moved to western Oregon and want to start a vegetable garden, but the only patch available is in partial shade. I can probably get stuff in the ground sometime next week. Any suggestions on what to plant?

We planted our first garden this year and it is growing pretty well but we’ve just noticed a ton of ants in our raised garden. How do we get rid of them?

When using Treflan TR 10 as a pre-emergent weed control in a vegetable garden, does the pre -emergent function not also stop your vegetable seeds from germinating?

I can’t seem to grow anything to full size because squirrels (or maybe even rats, gross!) are eating all of the tomatoes, eggplants and zucchini in my raised bed garden. The only veggies that seem safe from munching are my sweet banana and cayenne peppers. They haven’t found the cantaloupes yet, but I am sure it is just a matter of time. Any suggestions? Chicken wire?

We have ants in our vegetable garden. Anyway, they are irritating to have in there as I am working in the garden. How do I get rid of them? I am trying to do things organically. (We have a 17 month old and I don’t feel comfortable with the use of pesticides). Whatever information you have would be great.

I plant a garden every year, last summer wasn’t the best, but florished before leaves started yellowing and bitten up by the japanese beattle. I did put milky spore down to help rid them, I know it can take years to really work, but this year my vegetable plants are looking ill, and starting to yellow and brown spot near the base?? What’s going on? HELP!!

I need to fertilize my yard due to many weeds in our area from some wetlands. I just planted a raised bed vegetable garden and don’t want to eat the fertilizer I use on my lawn. should I stop fertilizing or is it okay? My neighbors fertilize, will that seep into my garden as well??

What is the best way to weed a garden? I have a very large vegetable garden and I’m on my hands and knees everyday picking little weeds! It is mainly little clovers and little grass weeds. What is the best way to keep them out? Someone suggested raking over the dirt, and I have been doing that but I feel like it is depleting the topsoil. Any suggestions? Thanks!

They are everywhere…little black ants…and the usual red ones w/ black tails. They have literally turned my garden into one giant ant bed before I even knew it. I just need to do this in a way that I don’t poison my food, because I am pregnant.

I have a great little vegetable and herb garden growing. A friend gave me some dried tobacco leaves. Can I lay them on the soil of my garden for fertilizer?

If so, what do I do about them? They are relatively small (for ants) and I think they might be red and black. They are all over the place, and I don’t want to use any pesticides in my garden. I use organic miracle grow vegetable garden soil

We are looking for non-toxic and no VOC stain to stain our vegetable garden bed wood frame.
Thinking of using a water based low VOC stain since this is what available in the local stores. Wondering whether this is a good choice. Appreciate any suggestions.
We live in Southern California. If any one can point me to a store here that carries Soy based wood stains here, that would be great too.

I’m very excited to get started on a garden, as I believe the economy is going to drastically change for the worse. I want to become as self-sufficient as possible. Where are some great seeds to get started with?
