Does Landscaping add to the value of your house, if so, how much?

We are thinking of adding a water feature as well as other professional landscaping and lighting.

Landscaping can add anything from 10 to 30% to the value of a home. A home with landscaping will always be more appealing than a house without. This may be important if you want to sell at some stage if the market is down it may be the difference between selling and not selling your home. Note that the leafy suburbs with the gardens usually are the most expensive suburbs.
I would be careful about the water feature, don’t overcapitalise, and make sure it is in style with your house. At the moment in Australia most new houses and gardens are getting water features, its considered a must for up market homes. Funny though we haven’t been carried away by mosquito’s!
It’s amazing how many people will buy a house because it looks nice and really not even consider the upkeep and maintenance. I do agree that the bathroom and kitchen are very important as well but if they don’t get out of the car because they don’t like the outside appearance your still not going to be get a sale.
Also something to consider today is that people don’t seem to like to do much themselves, if everything inside and out is finished and looking good they seem to be happy to pay more for it.
The only value it will add is in the eye of the buyer. Curb appeal will probably help sell faster but as far as how much added value is dependent on the person buying the place. I don’t think the appraiser will add for landscaping.
Yes, landscaping is very important to the value of your house. Landscaping adds curb appeal, which is nice to have whether you are selling or just enjoying your home. There is value in having the privacy that trees and shrubs add to your yard, there is value in the shade a property gets from trees. The feeling of well-being is also a benefit from pleasant landscaping. A water feature would add to that. Well done landscaping could add thousands to your property.
Landscaping will help, however the best money investement for resale are kitchen and bath areas, these will bring the best return if your yard is already in good shape, add a few flowers and shrubs and don’t worry about the lighting and water fountain.
if done with good taste, yes i believe it will add value.. i don’t think anyone can tell how much, without seeing a picture or house in person.. but heres a outside lighting place you might want 2 visit ..Executive lighting solutions.com
yes….on an average $400.00 house we would allow $10,000.00 for landscaping so yes it will increase ur value by how much u spend less 10% ..

Ignore the water feature….i just bought a house 3 months ago, and probably tore out $1,500 in water feature based landscaping because it was overgrown and was a mosquito breeding pool.
Too much maint. for a new home purchase unless they really desire it.
A "good" landscaping job can add up to 10% to the value of your property, but define "good." I agree with proto moo… a lot rests in the eye of the beholder. One may see lovely perennials while another sees too much hard work. I’d avoid a water feature as too big a risk, and perhaps concentrate on low-maintenance shrubs and ornamentals, like flowering crabs. The advice of a realtor might be more valuable than that of a landscaper, since the former has no ax to grind, i.e. no vested interest in the outcome.
