We recently moved to a property that is populated with lots of deer. We are planning on a nice big garden this year. Next to putting a 6 foot fence with angled barb wire at the top like a prison, what is the best way to keep the deer out of our cherished garden this year?
We bought a house last year that has 2 plots for flowers out front. The plots had a few plants in it, and lots of mulch, to keep down the weeds. I understand taht. But this year i want to plant NEW plants, what do i do with the mulch? Scrape it out? sow it into the dirt? pour new dirt on top? I just dont know. Please help.
For Valentines Day, I’d like to buy some flowers for two girls I’m very close to (as friends). Each and every year they complain about how they never get flowers so I thought I’d do a nice thing and surprise them with flowers. What kind of flowers should I buy them and in what color? I’m aware each type of flower and it’s color have all these different meanings and I don’t want to send the wrong message, especially since I know that they know the meanings of flowers lol!
I’ve tried repellents, both commercial and homemade varieties and don’t want to resort to using my.22 . Fencing is not a viable option either. Any suggestions ?
While I appreciate the suggestions a cat is not possible as the garden is at a school. I’ve tried the hair trick in many forms to no avail and am willing to try the other mixture suggested but fear it is just another variation on a theme which has yet to work for me.
We are childminders and our back garden takes a hammering with the children using it day in and day out.We would like to replace it with Artificial Grass but can not find any one local to Manchester to supply and install. Can any one please help?
We have a large backyard in our southern Illinois home, and I’m very interested in planting an ORGANIC vegetable garden. To say I don’t have a green thumb is a huge understatement. I’ll probably start off small, but I’d like to eventually have the following:
Red Potatoes
Onions
Lettuce
Cabbage
Tomatoes
Green Peppers
Celery
Strawberries
Grape Vines
Apple Trees
Broccoli
Cucumbers
Green Beans
Peas
Pumpkins
Corn
These are the fruits and vegetables that my family consumes constantly and our grocery bill is OUTRAGEOUS. Plus I’m trying to become more responsible concerning chemicals & pesticides so I’d like to do this as naturally as possible. We don’t have many organic products to choose from in the stores around here, so I figure if I want to do this I’ll have to grow my own.
I don’t know the first thing about gardening – let alone organic gardening – so I’m feeling overwhelemed and don’t really know where to begin. Do you have some good advice or online resources that will help me get started? Also, any advice or resources on canning vegetables for the winter would also be appreciated. THANKS!!!!!!
I am trying to start a landscaping business and I can’t figure out how to estimate prices for differnt services and how much do you charge for labor. Anyone who know please write me back and I will be very greatful
The plants will recieve direct sunlight and will get minimal water. Because i live in the florida area it will be very hot but because im doing it for the science department i would perfer that the plants flower and if at all possible attract birds and butterflys.
If you could give me websites with a list of these types of plants that would be great!
I’m an 18 year old college freshman and I was thinking of getting a small plant for my room. When I say small I am kind of thinking a foot or under in height. I want it to be easy to care for. I was looking at bonsai plants because they look cool. But I hear that they are hard to care for and should be kept outside. I was also thinking about a lucky bamboo plant. What is your recommendation?

Early Show contributor and gardening expert Ahmed Hassan spoke to Harry Smith about starting an outdoor garden for the spring indoors including using an indoor garden kit and lightweight potting soil.
I have had a quote for feather edged fencing to be put in my garden. The fencing required is 14 square metres. The landscaper wants to charge me £650 to supply and fit. I thought it would be about £400. Seems steep to me. Just wanted to know what others think before I get it done and should I be looking to pay prices like this
Also He gave a quote to have decking done for £1995 for a area 9×5 square metres. He said to lay a cheap slab patio would cost more than £2000. My garden isnt hilly theres a small patio there at moment very old but sound and the rest is grass. Im not sure to go ahead.
do you have a toad house?
a pond?
how many toads?
are they helping with the garden insects?
i have about a dozen toads, 3 toad houses, a pond, and they seem to be keeping the garden free of pests. i am not using pesticides, i prefer the toads. tell me about your garden toads.
i love them. i take great care of them.
we used to have lots of crickets. even inside, but not anymore. there’s one big toad that sits on the welcome mat like she’s guarding the house from them.
i would really like to go golfing at a course that doesnt use toxic chemicals to make the grass totally fake, i wish more people supported organic courses and stopped going to the courses that just spay herbicides and pesticides to cure the bug/weed problems..
in organic gardening you have to have more skill with how nature works and you’d have to have more educated greenskeepers but i think its worth it for the future kids of the world that we dont have all this crap on the surface where it eventually runs off into the same water we drink/bathe in – and all these problems for a game. but im sure dow doesnt mind.
With my little boy we have just dug and composted an area in the garden for veg/fruit. I wanted to do this to show them how to grow things for themselves when they are older. Problem is i havnt a clue really, i have put a mesh fence around it to stop the dog or cats toileting. What can i do about creepy crawlies.
We have lettuce and carrot seeds, i have 4 strawberry plants and 2 tom plants on my kitchen window. They are getting a bit big now should they go in the garden. How do i protect everything in a organic/ safe way ie no chemicals pellets etc. Thanks for any help.
I need a 600 WATT transformer for landscaping, but I’m hoping to get one in stores, and not online. Which stores in cumming (or near cumming) GA that sell this product?
