Am i right in thinking that my landlord has to supply equipment to maintain a garden. Luckily i have a strimmer and mower but no hedge trimmers. I am sure that the landlord has to provide these if they want them maintained

How to advertise gardening work?

My friends and i want to make some money over the summer by doing some gardening work, however we don’t know what is the best way to advertise our services in our local area. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I recently started sprouting vegetables on my plants.. and they have seemed to attract these weird red bugs that latch onto my tomatoes. My mother said that adding a few drops of dish soap to the water will help get rid of bugs and i have done that for about 3 days and it hasn’t helped out with getting rid of those bugs. I need a non-pesticide way of getting rid of bugs without ruining the integrity of my organic garden. Have any ideas.
I have no idea what kind of bugs they are I have looked on the internet and i cant find anything about them. I have spiders, lizards, wasps, a collection of different bugs in my garden but these are different. They latch onto my tomatoes.. all bugs on one tomato. They kind of look like spider ants. They have longer legs, bright red bodies with a black spot on the butt. If anyone knows where i can find information about garden bugs let me know. I just dont want them to ruin my fruits or vegetables

No offense taken, Hank, thanks for the info.

And the thumbing down is not from me.

Hi im building my veg patch larger on the weekend, im going to deeply turn over the soil, add horse manure and put compost about 1/2 – 1 foot high on top.

How long do i leave the manure before i can plant on it?

I’m a first time gardener.

I live in Ohio if climate matters, and I want it to be outdoors. Veggies that are relatively easy to grow would be nice. I want to save a little on my grocery bill and I also just like the idea of growing my own food. Thanks!

I’ve noticed many houses having gallons of water sitting on their lawns and gardens and such.. what are they for?

I live in an apartment that only gets direct sunlight for about an hour a day, and I miss having plants. The window sill doesn’t provide a great ledge for plant holders either. Does anyone know of any plants that can flourish under these conditions?

I recieved this in an email, just thought I’d share ……………

Please tell every dog or cat owner you know. Even if you don’t have a pet, please pass this to those who do.

Over the weekend the doting owner of two young lab mixes purchased Cocoa Mulch from Target to use in their garden. They loved the way it smelled and it was advertised to keep cats away from their garden. Their dog Calypso decided that the mulch smelled good enough to eat and devoured a large helping. She vomited a few times which was typical when she eats something new but wasn’t acting lethargic in any way. The next day, Mom woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk . Half way through the walk, she had a seizure and died instantly.

Although the mulch had NO warnings printed on the label, upon further investigation on the company’s website, this product is HIGHLY toxic to dogs and cats.

Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey’s, and they claim that ‘It is true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won’t eat it.’

This Snopes site gives the following information:http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/cocoamulch.asp

Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Home Depot, Foreman’s Garden Supply and other Garden supply stores, contains a lethal ingredient called ‘ Theobromine’. It is lethal to dogs and cats. It smells like chocolate and it really attracts dogs. They will ingest this stuff and die. Several deaths already occurred in the last 2-3 weeks. Theobromine is in all chocolate, especially dark or baker’s chocolate which is toxic to dogs. Cocoa bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of theobromine, a xanthine compound similar in effects to caffeine and theophylline. A dog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacao bean shells developed severe convulsions and died 17 hours later. Analysis of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shells revealed the presence of lethal amounts of theobromine.

My question would be, have you ever heard of this mulch?
austinville … I dont even have a dog but your absolutely right! My parents have a dog so I’m going to do that now.

I am planning my new garden but want flowers and plants in bloom all year round. I want the garden to look pretty whatever the time of year.

Is my garden still organic?

I am really trying to make an organic vegetable garden but I spread some potting soil with plant food in addition to compost in my garden. Is plant food fertilizer?

I know some chips/mulching may contain dyes, pesticides or antifungal treatments, does anyone know of a good "pretty" reddish colored chip that would be safe for me to use in my yard around my pugs. Some have suggested rocks…I don’t want rocks……some the non colored "ugly" mulching and even that may still have something poisonous to pets. There must be something that is both pretty, inexpensive and yet safe for my dogs. I appreciate any input. Thanks for your time.

Any good gardening books you could recommend?

I bought my first house in Maine, and would like to make a few flower gardens around the house. Since I have no idea how or where to start, does anybody know of a good book (or two!) that would be helpful for a beginning gardener? I’ve looked online, but there are so many to choose from!

can you grow garlic and potatoes in Texas pan-handel climate area?

What is Busch Gardens policy for pictures/video on the Serengeti Train? Because I know you will get thrown out if they see you doing it on any other ride, but how strict are they about the Train ride getting photographed/videotaped?

This job involves making a slate sidewalk with lights on both sides for lighting the walkway. Putting railroad gravel in between all the slate. Making a railroad gravel garden with a gazebo on it. Hope this gives you an idea what wages would be for this type of work. Thanks for your answer & have a nice day!

I have a large area in front and back of my house that I would like to landscape. I like to use do it yourself books but am not sure what to get. I would like one that would include preparing the soil, what flowers and plants to put with each other, how to use landscape fabric and mulch. Any ideas?

I live in a city, so getting a job at a farm is out of the question.

I am trying to plan what flowers or plants to plant in front of our house. The front of the house is in the shade because of two large pine trees that are in front of our house. The previous owner had a lot of hostas which I pulled out because they were overgrown and blocked the sidewalk so people couldn’t even walk on it. Are there any plants which would do well in the shade and look nice with a red brick house?

I am planning on leveling the ground and putting down weed fabric then putting the rock down. My husband says I need to dig deeper, put down the fabric, put down sand and then pebble then the rocks, otherwise it will turn into a soup bowl and the rock will sink/wash away. I do not plan on putting any plants in.
